The above article appeared in the New Haven Register on November 7, 1888. Although it appears brief in nature it actually contains a great deal of information. This one short paragraph not only reports that the Hinman House did indeed burn to the ground on November 6, 1888, it also contains the name of the owner, the name of the insurance company, and confirms that the New Haven Fire Department responded but was too late to save the structure.
